The Story of Notre Dame Du Laus Church

about-us-section

Our Rich History

Established in 1950 in Powerview, Manitoba, Notre Dame Du Laus stands as a “Refuge of Sinners,” inspired by the 17th-century apparition of Our Lady of Laus. Built through the generosity of Mgr. Henri Bernard, its legacy began with his entombment in 1951. This sacred space has since welcomed pilgrims and parishioners, rooted in faith and devotion.

Our Mission and Vision

Guided by our patroness, Our Lady of Laus, we aspire to grow God’s Kingdom here on earth! Our vision is to welcome all to the living presence of Jesus Christ and to witness His love in our community and the world.

Our Community Today

Today, our parish thrives with diverse ministries and fellowship that unite us. Our shrine to Our Lady of Laus continues to inspire, offering a place of peace.

Father Sebastian Ejie

Fr. Sebastian Ejie

Fr. Sebastian, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Awka in Anambra State, Nigeria, brings a rich spiritual and academic background to Notre Dame Du Laus. Ordained on August 20, 2005, he holds degrees in philosophy and theology, along with a postgraduate qualification in Educational Foundations and a master’s in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution. His diverse ministry includes roles as a teacher, parish priest, parish administrator, college chaplain, chaplain to religious and social organizations, and former seminary confessor.

Fr. Sebastian’s journey to priesthood began after high school, ignited by a deep calling. He embraced the challenges of Latin studies, spiritual formation, and entered the major seminary in October 1996. Completing his formation in June 2005, he was ordained later that year. Passionate about Scripture and living Christ’s teachings, Fr. Sebastian balances a thoughtful demeanor with a love for sports, social work, and his priesthood above all.

Arriving at Powerview Church in July 2021, Fr. Sebastian continues to serve with dedication. His presence enriches our community with wisdom, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to faith.
