A new community food bank and weekly lunch program has opened in the region, operating out of Powerview Church and serving residents who need support. The Pine Falls Regional Food Bank and the Come & Eat lunch program began three weeks ago and have already seen strong participation.
Volunteers have been serving hot lunches to between 50 and 100 people each week. Food hampers are also being distributed to the same number of families. Organizers say the response reflects both the level of need in the area and the commitment of volunteers who have stepped forward to help.
The lunch program runs every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Powerview Church, located at 40 Laura St. in Powerview. Meals are offered at no cost, and all community members are welcome.
The food bank and lunch program are part of a broader effort to provide practical support, reduce food insecurity and create a welcoming space for anyone who could use a meal or a hamper. Parishioners and local residents are encouraged to spread the word to those who may benefit.
Lenten food drive underway
The Knights of Columbus are supporting the new food bank with a Lenten food drive initiative. Parishioners of Notre Dame du Laus are invited to “give alms during Lent” by donating one can of food per day for 40 days. All donations will go directly to the local food bank to help sustain the growing demand for hampers and meal services.
The drive offers parishioners a practical way to participate in the season of Lent while supporting families in need across the region.
Strengthening community support
The combined efforts of volunteers, parishioners and local organizations are helping ensure that no one in the community goes without a meal or essential groceries. The food bank and lunch program continue to welcome new volunteers and donations as the number of people seeking support grows.
