On Thursday, July 17, 2025, parishioners from Notre Dame du Laus Catholic Church embarked on a deeply spiritual journey to St. Joseph’s Church in Winnipeg, MB, to venerate the first-class relics of Blessed Vasyl. Organized by the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC), this pilgrimage brought together a diverse group of faithful seeking hope, healing, and renewal through the intercession of Blessed Vasyl.
The day began at 1:00 p.m. with a warm welcome at St. Joseph’s Church, where the stainless-steel sarcophagus containing the incorrupt relics of Blessed Vasyl awaited. The chapel, adorned with sacred icons and flickering candles, created a reverent atmosphere as pilgrims approached the relics. Many were moved to tears, reflecting on the miraculous preservation of his body, discovered intact during exhumation in 2001.
The group tour offered a deeper understanding of the site’s significance, with guides sharing stories of Blessed Vasyl’s life and legacy. Opportunities for confession and a pilgrimage anointing allowed for personal moments of grace, while a Ukrainian Catholic Divine Liturgy/Mass, celebrated in English, united the community in prayer. For those who met the ordinary conditions, the chance to earn a plenary indulgence added a profound spiritual dimension to the day.
The pilgrimage culminated in a joyful post-event gathering at Boston Pizza on Henderson Hwy. Over dinner at 4:30 p.m., parishioners shared their experiences, forging new bonds and reflecting on the day’s blessings. The event saw a strong turnout, thanks to the generous hospitality of St. Joseph’s Church, which opened its doors exclusively for Notre Dame du Laus.
This pilgrimage left an indelible mark on all who attended, strengthening their faith and inspiring continued devotion to Blessed Vasyl. The Parish Pastoral Council extends its gratitude to everyone who participated and looks forward to future opportunities for communal prayer and fellowship.
